Dinner time, Come and Get It

To take my mind off my pain, I made my family's favorite meatloaf and tried a new potato recipe. It is called "Au Gratin Potatoes". From the "ooohhs" and "ahhs" I heard from the dinner table, I take it they are very good. My daughter even asked for seconds, which is not usual for her.
Making the cheese sauce

Yummy au gratin potatoes

The complete meal. the recipe for individual meatloaves is here.

Au Gratin Potatoes
6-8 servings
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
5 cups thinly sliced peeled potatoes (about 6 medium)
1/2 cup chopped onion
In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Stir in flour, salt and pepper until smooth. Gradually add milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir 2 minutes or until thickened. remove from the heat; stir in cheese until melted. Add potatoes and onion; stir well. Transfer to a greased 2qt baking dish. Cover;bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Uncover; bake 30-40 minutes longer or until potatoes are tender.

I love gratin potatoes. It's been too long since I've made them - I'd better do something about that soon.

Your dentist post was horrific. I hope the pain and the memories are fading. Got a feeling the memories might take a little longer.

Which reminds me... Patience! What wound would ever heal but by degrees. (Don't hit me!)

Hi Sara, been thinking 'Au gratin potatoes' for a while. Potatoes, butter, cheese...yum combination! if your kids enjoyed this, then I'm sure mine will love 'em too! Think I've seen your comment on the march DB challenge? Thanks for dropping by my place. See you on Sunday...cheers!!
